Intro

Celestial Family is the 2020 product line of Venev Industrial Diamonds on Gritomatic. Some products you already know got new names. All Venev series and stone sets have names now. It's necessary because the number of Venev stones has exploded by cosmic scale. All the new stones will hit the market in January-February of 2020. We assigned astronomical names to Venev products to make a tribute to Astronomy, the science that gained most of our current knowledge in last few years. People sharpened knives with natural stones for centuries. The invention of synthetic sharpening stones made natural stones obsolete. We believe that bonded superabrasive technology used in Venev diamonds will make all other sharpening stones relic of the past. And we want to thank all early adopters - the manufacturers of bonded superabrasives for sharpening knives: Venev, Edge Pro, Naniwa, Poltava Diamonds, and others.

When you look at night sky, it's difficult to imagine the power laying behind stars.

Evolution

Before we explain details of each series, let's start with general things.

• F2000 OCB is introduced. A stable nonabrasive binder was successfully adopted in ultra fine F2000 grit. Technically speaking, it has GOST 1/0 grit rating which is finer than FEPA 2000. The average particle size is 0.90 μm. F2000 OCB will be in most of series.
• With F2000 grit return, the new grit ladder 100+240 / 400+800 / 1200+2000 for dual-side diamonds returns. It will coexists with the current ladder 80+150 / 240+400 / 800+1200.
• The diamond concentration is no longer the hidden feature. Many diamonds will be available in 100% (high concentration) and 25% (low concentration). The main reason why we offer the choice over diamond concentration is proofs that 25% concentrations give a better polishing effect in comparison with 100%.
• All Venev diamonds have easy-to-read SKU numbers. CEN-OCB100-400.800 means Centaur series, OCB binder, 100% diamond concentration, 400 and 800 grit.
  
  

Phoenix

Phoenix constellation was named after the mythical phoenix, virtually indestructible creature obtaining new life by arising from the ashes of its predecessor.

Phoenix is a new name of 8"x3" Dual Side Diamond Series. Phoenix will be available in six grit combinations:

• F80 + F150
• F100 + F240
• F240 + F400 OCB
• F400 OCB + F800 OCB
• F800 OCB + F1200 OCB
• F1200 OCB + F2000 OCB

All Phoenix diamonds have 100% diamond concentration. Price range 79-92 USD. SKU name starts with "PHE". ETA: the end of January.

Dragon

Draco constellation was named after the large serpentine legendary creature of extraordinary power.

Dragon is new flagship series for free hand sharpening. Dragon is 8"x3" Dual Side, the same size as Phoenix. Dragon diamonds have 2-mm diamond-bearing layers (1-mm for Phoenix) and tighter flatness tolerance (<0.1mm vs. 0.3mm for Phoenix).

Dragon will be available in six grit combinations:

• F80 + F150
• F100 + F240
• F240 + F400 OCB
• F400 OCB + F800 OCB
• F800 OCB + F1200 OCB
• F1200 OCB + F2000 OCB

All Dragon diamonds have 100% diamond concentration. Price range 159-183 USD. SKU name starts with "DRA". ETA: the end of January.

Centaur

Centaurus constellation was named after a creature that is half human, half horse. The nearest star system to the Solar System is Alpha Centauri, a triple star system, consisting of three stars. Beta Centauri also known as Hadar is another triple star system of the constellation.

Centaur is a new name of All-purpose 6"x1" Dual Side Diamond Series. Centaur series stones can be used in both free hand sharpening and in compatible guided knife sharpeners: all Hapstone, all TSProf, and upcoming new sharpeners. Centaur will be available in three grit combinations:

• F100 + F240
• F400 OCB + F800 OCB
• F1200 OCB + F2000 OCB

OCB combinations of Centaur series will be available in 100% and 25% diamond concentration.

Current grit combinations (from F80 to F1200 OCB) will be available while stock last.

Orion

Orion constellation is named after Orion the hunter. Orion is the most recognizable in the night sky./ᐠ｡ꞈ｡ᐟ\
Orion is the cat of Gentle Rosenburg, member of the Arquilian royal family and keeper of Arquilian Galaxy on Orion's Belt.

Orion is a new name of Edge Pro format diamonds. Orion utilize 3-mm diamond-bearing layer on aluminum blank. Orion will be available in 8 grits:

• F80 100%
• F150 100%
• F240 100%
• F400 OCB 100% and 25%
• F800 OCB 100% and 25%
• F1200 OCB 100% and 25%
• F2000 OCB 100% and 25%

Dog

Canis Minor constellation represents one of the dogs following Orion the hunter. The brightest star of Canis Minor is Procyon, a binary star system.

Dog is a new 4"x⅔" Dual Side Diamond Series for EDC and compatible guided knife sharpeners: Hapstone M2, Hapstone K1, TSProf Blitz 360 (not KME). Size 98x17mm. Diamonds will have grit engraving on sides for easy identification. Dog diamonds will be available in two grit combinations:

• F100 + F240
• F400 OCB + F800 OCB

Dog series will be available only in 25% diamond concentration.

Stone set Procyon:

Procyon stone set will become the basic diamond bundle for Hapstone M2, K1, and TSProf Blitz 360 sharpeners. Estimated price 10-15 USD.

Greater Dog

Canis Major constellation represents another dog following Orion the hunter. Canis Major contains Sirius, the brightest star in the night sky, known as the "dog star".

Greater Dog is in development. Greater Dog is larger version of Dog. Prospect size 98x40mm. SKU name starts with "CMA". ETA: February-March.

 

Lynx

Lynx a name of old Venev pocket diamonds. Lynx will be displaced by two Dogs and discontinued. Farewell, Lynx.

Hydra

Hydra constellation is named after a water snake the organization founded on the belief that humanity could not be trusted with freedom. Hail Hydra.

Hydra is the name of old KME format diamonds discontinued due to compatibility issues. Hydra will be displaced by Scorpion series. KME owners can wait for Scorpion, or purchase very inexpensive Hydra diamonds as DIY and rework - flatten the working surface and glue to an aluminum blank (included). Hydra also can be used as pocket diamond. Non-OCB only.

Scorpion

Scorpius is one of the constellations of the zodiac. It's named after the scorpion who killed Orion the hunter. Antares the brightest star in the constellation Scorpius and represents the Scorpion's Heart.

Scorpion is a new Venev series for KME knife sharpener. Scorpion utilizes 2-mm diamond-bearing layer on 5-mm aluminum plate. Scorpion is much stronger than Hydra in the internal rigidity. Scorpion will be available in 8 grits:

• F400 OCB 100% and 25%
• F800 OCB 100% and 25%
• F1200 OCB 100% and 25%

Gemini

Gemini is one of the constellations of the zodiac. Castor is a multiple star system made up of six individual stars.

Gemini is a new name of Edge Pro-compatible curved diamonds for sharpening recurved blades. Gemini is the only Venev series utilizing metallic binder. Gemini is available in 6 grits:

• F80
• F150
• F240
• F400
• F800
• F1200
